Legal Assistant Course in Atlanta

Eight weeks may be enough to enter the legal profession. The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education, in a partnership with the Center for Legal Studies, offers a short-term paralegal certificate program that prepares students for paralegal and legal assistant jobs. The 84-hour course, which is held on Friday nights and Saturdays at UGA’s Lawrenceville campus, uses curriculum created by the Center for Legal Studies. The Shorter Way To Becoming A Lawyer

The standard route to becoming a lawyer is to take the bar exam administered by the state the person wants to practice in. Law school prepares individuals with the knowledge to pass the bar exam and therefore practice as a lawyer. In some states there is a way to circumvent this method.

Take the example of Jennifer O’Brien a California lawyer who never attended law school. She worked for 15 years as a legal assistant to lawyer. She took the exam for the first time this summer and in November learned she passed. She studied law under the mentorship of her employer and will work in their law office as an attorney.

Law Job Openings May Improve In 2012

The legal profession will be busy in 2012. MSNBC reports that 40000 new laws are being implemented in 2012. Many laws are in regard to concerns over immigration, the cost of government and the best way to protect and benefit young people. Challenges to these laws and disputes that erupt from them will mean more work for the legal professions.

Eight states will raise the minimum wage and San Francisco will become the first city to raise its minimum wage above $10 per hour. Alabama will require all employers who do business with any government entity to use a system called as E-Verify to check that all new employees are in the country legally. Cyber Bully Assistant Attorney General Stalks Gay Student

Looking for a legal job? This guy's company might soon be hiring.

You’d think that an Assistant Attorney General would have to uphold some pretty high standards of ethics—both inside and outside the office. You’d think that he or she would dress sharply, speak well, be courteous (well, at least outside the courtroom), and know better than to stalk, bash, and bully a 21-year-old gay college student.

Apparently Andrew Shirvell didn’t get the memo.

Shirvell, an Assistant Attorney General from Michigan, has been following University of Michigan’s Student Body President, openly gay student Chris Armstrong, like a hawk. Worse, he’s videotaped the young man at his home, set up a website with photo-shopped images of the young man, stalked his Facebook page, protested him loudly, and generally acted like a child undeserving of his title and status. What Exactly is a Paralegal?

If you ever stay up late watching television—or happen to watch TV in the middle of the day for some reason—you’ve probably seen an ad about getting your degree from a home study program. They usually list a bunch of different careers, from medical transcription to veterinary studies. I think it’s wonderful that so many people—particularly working families who don’t have the time or money to attend a regular university—can get such an education from home in this way (that is, if it’s legit).

That said, I’ve always heard them include the term “paralegal,” and I’ve never known exactly what that means. I’ve always just figured it meant a lawyer’s aid, which is still a pretty vague explanation. Having planned on being a lawyer at one point, I should already know, right?
